A Simple Solution to Lens Fogging during Robotic and Laparoscopic Surgery

چکیده
We have routinely used FRED antifog solution (US Surgical, North Haven, CT), which consists of less than 15% isopropyl alcohol, 2% surfactant, and more than 85% water, during laparoscopic procedures.1 We also use the Insuflow (Lexion Medical, St. Paul, MN) device. Insuflow is a single-use device that attaches to the outlet port of an insufflator and is designed to warm and humidify the gas stream prior to insufflation into the abdominal cavity to prevent drying of peritoneal surfaces and to improve recovery time.2–4 The Insuflow device consists of a disposable filter heater/humidifier tubing set and a control module that houses the control and safety circuits for the system.5 Gas from the insufflator flows into the Insuflow device, through the in-line filter, continues along the tube to enter the Insuflow device cassette that contains the heating element and humidification media.

Quantifying Intraoperative Laparoscopic Visual Field Opacity
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Laparoscopic surgery can be complicated by condensation and debris on the lens obscuring the visual field, increasing the risk of surgical error and injury to the patient. Despite, development of possible solutions, little is known regarding the quantitative measure of time lost during surgery because of an obscured visual field. Without this knowledge, the cost of lap...
متن کاملDouble-blind, prospective, randomized study of warmed, humidified carbon dioxide insufflation vs standard carbon dioxide for patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
HYPOTHESIS Patients undergoing warmed, humidified carbon dioxide (CO2) insufflation for laparoscopic cholecystectomy will (1) maintain a warmer intraoperative core temperature, (2) have their surgeon experience less fogging of the camera lens, and (3) have less postoperative pain than patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy with standard CO2 insufflation. DESIGN A double-blind, prosp...
متن کاملElimination of Laparoscopic Lens Fogging Using Directional Flow of CO2
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES Surgeons constantly struggle with the formation of condensation on the lens of a laparoscope, which prolongs procedures and reduces visibility of the abdominal cavity. The goal of this project was to build a device that would direct a flow of carbon dioxide (CO2) into an open chamber surrounding the lens of a laparoscope, acting to keep moisture away from the lens and ...
متن کاملInitial experience with the EndoAssist camera-holding robot in laparoscopic urological surgery
Although the advantages of laparoscopic surgery are well documented, one disadvantage is that, for optimum performance, an experienced camera driver is required who can provide the necessary views for the operating surgeon. In this paper we describe our experience with urological laparoscopic techniques using the novel EndoAssist robotic camera holder and review the current status of alternativ...
متن کاملEffect of heated and humidified carbon dioxide on patients after laparoscopic procedures: a meta-analysis.
OBJECTIVE To systematically analyze the role of heated humidified carbon dioxide (CO2) in laparoscopy. METHODS Clinical trials on laparoscopic procedures using standard dry CO2 versus heated humidified CO2 for pneumoperitoneum were analyzed. RESULTS Ten randomized controlled trials on 565 patients were analyzed. In both the fixed and random effect models, postoperative pain was significantl...
